In June 22, 2011 in the framework of working trip to Kurchatov the Premier - Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov visited the facilities of the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan.

Visit of the Prime - Minister was started with a visiting the Museum of National Nuclear Center, which provides exposition of the activities, history, organizational structure and main achievements of the company. The particular importance in the Centre activity is occupied by the works on elimination of the infrastructure and effects of nuclear weapons tests at the former Semipalatinsk test site to improve the radiation and ecological environment, to develop the experience of conversion plants.

K.Massimov visited a number of these facilities, where the unique experimental facilities, research reactors, critical test benches, on which the research and development activities in the field of nuclear physics, atomic energy, radio-ecology and monitoring of nuclear testing, seismology, nuclear energy were performed, were presented.

Then the Premier - Minister visited the complex of nuclear research reactors "Baikal-1", where the researches with nuclear rocket engine were performed in Soviet times and IVG.1M reactor having a lot of research and development activities in the field of nuclear science in his experience. A long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel of BN-350 reactor is located at the territory of "Baikal-1" site, transportation of which ended in October last year. The reactor decommissioning was begun in the 90s and is being carried out jointly with the specialists from the U.S. and Russia and is a confirmation of good will to support Kazakhstan's non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
